Chronic Illness And Class Participation In Secondary Schools In Kisoro District: A Case Study Of St. Andrew’s Academy In Kisoro Municipality (issue 4)
The study aimed at chronic illness and class participation in secondary schools in Kisoro district: a case study of St.
Andrew’s academy in Kisoro municipality and it was guided by the following objectives; To find out the level of
chronic illness at St. Andrews academy in Kisoro Municipality, to find out the level of class participation in English
subject at St. Andrews academy in Kisoro Municipality and to find out the extent to which chronic illness influence
class participation in English subject in Kisoro Municipality. The descriptive survey design was adopted; this was
because cross sectional approach was useful in obtaining an overall picture as it stood at the time of the study. Cross
sectional studies are comparatively cheap to undertake and easy to analyze. The research study was conducted in
Kisoro Municipality in Kisoro District. Kisoro District is located in Kigezi region bordered by Kabale in the East,
Democratic Republic of Congo in the west, Kanungu District in the North and Rwanda in the south. From the findings,
Chronic illness pandemics should be controlled a cross secondary schools in the country so as children can build their
career without fear of these serious diseases which most of the times has no cure. An assessment was conducted of the
relationship between the level of chronic illness reported by students and their level of participation during classes for
the English subject. The findings indicate a very high positive correlation of 0.705 between these two variables,
demonstrating that as the level of a student's chronic illness increases, their level of participation in English class also
tends to increase. Chronic illness pandemics should be controlled a cross secondary schools in the country so as
children can build their career without fear of these serious diseases which most of the times has no cure.
