Relationship Between Mosque Leadership And Governance On Community Transformation In Nakawa East Constituency Kampala District Uganda

This study aimed at exploring the relationship between mosque leadership and governance and its impact on
community transformation in Nakawa East Constituency, Kampala District, Uganda. The research aimed to assess
how different leadership and governance models within mosques centralized, decentralized, collaborative, and
autocratic affect community development initiatives such as education, health, and social services. Data were collected
through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys of 150 mosque leaders, congregants, and community members,
and in-depth interviews with mosque leaders and key community informants. Quantitative data were analyzed using
SPSS and STATA, employing descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and regression analysis. The qualitative data
were analyzed thematically to provide deeper insights into governance dynamics. Results revealed that collaborative
leadership models were most strongly associated with positive community transformation, particularly in educational
and social development. Centralized and autocratic leadership structures were found to have a limited impact on
fostering community participation and development. The study concluded that mosque leadership and governance
significantly influence the effectiveness of community transformation initiatives, with collaborative governance
proving to be the most effective model. Recommendations included enhancing collaborative governance structures,
providing leadership training for mosque leaders, and fostering greater community involvement in mosque-led
initiatives to promote sustainable development.
