Analysis Of Students Enrollment And Graduation Rates In Metropolitan International University In Uganda. A Case Study Of Metropolitan International University
This study aimed to conduct an in-depth analysis of trends in student enrollment and graduation rates at Metropolitan
International University (MIU) in Uganda over the past 15 years to determine underlying reasons for persistently low
completion rates. A sequential explanatory mixed methods research design was employed to collect both quantitative
and qualitative data through record reviews, interviews, focus groups and surveys involving key stakeholders from
the university administration, faculty and current/past students. Quantitative secondary enrollment and progression
records spanning 2007-2019 cohorts were analyzed using descriptive statistics and SPSS to examine fluctuations in
enrollment distribution across faculties and annual graduation proportions. Qualitative insights uncovered failures
within admissions practices, academic support systems, curriculum relevance, financial constraints and other barriers
imposing disproportionate risks on specific demographic groups. Comprehensive findings were triangulated to yield
robust conclusions about systemic deficiencies necessitating reformative interventions. The empirical evidence
provides a foundation for MIU management to implement targeted recommendations centered on enhancing student
preparedness, expanding equitable financial assistance, strengthening academic infrastructure and transforming
performance metrics to align operations with the university's impactful vision.
