Analyze The Relationship Between Gender Inequalities And Performance In The Journalism Industry. A Case Of Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation’s (UBC).

The study aimed at analyzing the relationship between gender inequalities and performance in the journalism industry.
A case of Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation (UBC). It was guided by three research objectives which To establish
the ways how gender inequality has affected the journalist practitioners, To examine the challenges faced by journalists
in while performing their work, To assess the government intervention/contribution to gender equality on performance
of journalism
The study employed a descriptive research design based on both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The
target population consisted of 61 men and 64 women from UBC, with a sample size of 60 respondents selected through
proportionate and purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a combination of questionnaires,
interviews, and observations, supplemented by secondary data from relevant sources. The research instruments were
tested for validity and reliability, ensuring the credibility of the findings. Quantitative data were analyzed using
descriptive and inferential statistics, including means, frequencies, and correlation analyses, while qualitative data
were analyzed through thematic content analysis. Findings indicated that broadcasting media played a significant role
in uplifting the status of women through various channels such as campaigns, television and radio programs, and the
distribution of gender-related materials. Furthermore, organizations contributed to gender promotion by raising
awareness, combating domestic violence, and promoting women's education and participation in decision-making.
However, challenges such as limited funding and traditional perceptions of gender roles continued to impede full
progress. The study highlighted the importance of media and organizational efforts in empowering women and
addressing gender inequalities but also emphasized the need for continued advocacy and support to foster greater
gender equality in Uganda.
