Assessing The Role Of Sustainable Development Goals And Their Impact In Shaping International Economic Relations Case Study Uganda.
This study assessed the impact of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation through the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) on Uganda’s international economic relations, identified challenges faced by UNDP
in Uganda, and recommended actionable strategies for improving the effectiveness of SDG-driven development
programs in the country. Using multiple linear regression analysis, the study revealed that SDG implementation, UNDP
funding, the number of UNDP projects, and policy alignment all positively influenced Uganda’s international economic
relations. Specifically, SDG implementation was found to have a significant positive impact on Uganda’s global
economic standing. The study also identified several challenges faced by UNDP, including bureaucratic inefficiencies,
inadequate local capacity, financial constraints, and political interference, all of which were found to negatively affect
the effectiveness of SDG-driven programs. To improve the outcomes of these programs, the study recommended
strategies such as streamlining bureaucratic processes, strengthening local capacity, securing consistent funding, and
minimizing political interference, fostering stakeholder engagement, ensuring government support, and encouraging
community participation. The study concluded that overcoming these challenges and implementing the recommended
strategies would significantly improve the effectiveness of SDG initiatives in Uganda, thereby enhancing the country’s
international economic relations and contributing to sustainable development.
