Effects Of Covid 19 Outbreak In Tourism Industry In Uganda. A Case Study Of Uganda Museum

This study examined the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry in Uganda by reviewing existing secondary
data from journals, historical records, newspaper articles, World Health Organization statistics, government reports, and website
materials related to COVID-19 and tourism. A qualitative review approach was adopted, and relevant literature was systematically
analyzed to explore how the pandemic disrupted Uganda’s tourism sector. The findings revealed that the outbreak of COVID-19
led to unprecedented challenges in both inbound and outbound tourism in Uganda. International and domestic travel restrictions
resulted in mass cancellations of tourist bookings, closure of borders, suspension of airline services, and a sharp decline in hotel
occupancy rates. These disruptions significantly affected tourism-dependent businesses, leading to large-scale economic losses
and reductions in employment across the sector. The results indicated that the amplification of COVID-19 is likely to have long
term negative implications for the recovery and sustainability of Uganda’s tourism industry. In response, the Ugandan government
introduced an incentive package aimed at stimulating early economic recovery and supporting tourism-related enterprises during
the crisis. The study concluded that while short-term interventions are necessary, long-term resilience in the tourism sector
requires strategic planning, diversification of tourism products, digital transformation, and strong public-private partnerships. It
was recommended that the government and stakeholders invest in tourism resilience strategies, enhance health and safety
standards, and promote domestic tourism as a buffer against international travel disruptions. Moreover, policy frameworks must
prioritize disaster preparedness and crisis management within the tourism industry. This review contributes to a theoretical
understanding of the pandemic's effects and offers guidance for future studies on crisis recovery in tourism.
