Human Activities And Climate Change In Kisoro District: A Case Study Of Nyundo Sub County

The main objective of the study was to find out the influence of human activities on climate change in Nyundo
Sub County in Kisoro district. The research was guided by three objectives that is; to determine the level of
effectiveness of the human activities in Nyundo sub county in Kisoro district, to determine levels of climate
change in Nyundo sub county in Kisoro district, to determine if there is significant relationship between human
activities and climate change in Nyundo sub county in Kisoro district. The researcher employed a descriptive
survey research design to help in gathering information where little knowledge was known. A cross-sectional
survey design across the respondent in Kisoro district was used to survey the study population. Qualitative data
was collected and this enabled the researcher to draw valid and dependable conclusion and recommendation of
the study. The study used a sample size of 80 respondents where 40 were farmers, 25 were stone quarriers and
sand miners, and 15 were charcoal producers. The Data was organized, entered into SPSS application program
where both inferential and descriptive analysis will be carried out. The study results were later presented in form
of tables and graphs for easy interpretation. According the findings, the researcher distributed 80 questionnaires
and out of this number, the return rate as only 99% indicating a satisfying return rate. This was indicated by 79
out of 80 questionnaires distributed, this return rate was returned filled and it is what the researcher used to analyze
the data needed to drive to the conclusion. From the findings, the respondents were asked of mention human
activity that cause climate change in Nyundo Sub County and the researcher found out that the most human
activity-causing climate is over cultivation by 29.1%, swamp reclamation by 20.3%, bush burning by 13.9% and
lastly overgrazing by 12.7% among all human activities’ carryout in Nyundo Sub County, the researcher found
out that majority of them which is 43% rated high, followed by 41.8% who rated moderate, 11.4% of them rated
very high, 3.85 also rated low, researcher found out that of 79 respondents, the majority 27.8% of them said other
causes of climate change is the effect of trade winds, water bodies and change in season also cause climate change
by the same percentage, 12.5%, eclipse of the sun by 12.7%, rotation of the earth by 16.5%.
In conclusion, the respondents have given the overall views to each criterion in the study. Most of the respondents
believe that human activities are major cause of climate change in Nyundo in Kisoro district, the human activities
that cause climate change in Nyundo Sub County were over cultivation, swamp reclamation, bush burning and
lastly overgrazing, the leading effect of human activity on climate change is pro-longed, followed by Un expected
rain
