Impact of Entrepreneurial Training on Start-Up Success: A Case Study of Youth Enterprises in Kisoro District, Uganda

This study aimed at assessing the impact of entrepreneurial training on the success of youth-owned start-ups in Kisoro
District, Uganda. Specifically, it examined the relationship between entrepreneurial training and financial
performance, the effect on business sustainability and growth, and the role in improving managerial skills and
decision-making abilities. The study utilized a cross-sectional survey design, collecting data from 250 youth
entrepreneurs in Kisoro District. The data was analyzed using multiple logistic regression with SPSS and STATA.
The findings indicated that entrepreneurial training significantly improved the financial performance of youth-owned
enterprises, with trained entrepreneurs being 2.44 times more likely to report higher profits compared to their untrained
counterparts. Furthermore, the training was found to have a positive effect on business growth, with those receiving
training being 3.15 times more likely to experience expansion and long-term sustainability. Additionally, training
enhanced managerial skills, as evidenced by a 3.78 times higher likelihood of improved decision-making and strategic
planning among trained entrepreneurs. The study concluded that entrepreneurial training is crucial for the success and
growth of youth enterprises, as it equips them with essential skills and resources for business development. The study
recommended expanding access to entrepreneurial training programs, improving the quality and relevance of training,
providing mentorship, and enhancing access to resources such as capital and technology. Further, it is recommended
to establish a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem and conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of training
programs to ensure their effectiveness.
