Impact of Gender Inequality on Women’s Economic Empowerment. A Case Study Of Wakiso Sub County, Wakiso District
This study was limited toanalyzing the impact of gender inequality on women’s economic empowerment in
Wakiso sub-county, Wakiso District, a similar study can be replicated in other parts of the country in Uganda.
The study found out that there are various factors that contribute to the success of women owned business in
Wakiso district and these included, access to financial resources is crucial for the success of women-owned
businesses in Wakiso district, Supportive networks and mentorship programs significantly contribute to the
success of women-owned businesses in Wakiso district, Education and skills development play a vital role in
enhancing the success of women-owned businesses in Wakiso district, supportive government policies and
financial support from government is crucial for women’s success. The study found out the effectiveness of
policies and programmes aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment and these included,
entrepreneurship support initiatives have effectively enhanced women's economic empowerment in Wakiso
district. Gender-responsive budgeting has been successful in promoting women's economic empowerment in
Wakiso district. Social protection programs have positively contributed to women's economic empowerment in
Wakiso district. The study found out a number of challenges Faced by Women in Accessing Economic
Opportunities and these included, gender-based discrimination remains a significant barrier for women in
accessing economic opportunities in Wakiso district. Limited access to financial services poses a significant
challenge for women in Wakiso district. Sociocultural norms and stereotypes limit women's opportunities for
economic participation in Wakiso district. Legal and policy constraints restrict women's access to economic
opportunities in Wakiso district.
