Influence Of Social Media On Children Morality In Uganda, A Case Of Kampala Central Division
This study aimed at examining the influence of social media on children mortality in Uganda with a case of
Kampala Central Division and assess the measures that can be adopted to improve their engagement with digital
tools while ensuring their social development. The study used a mixed-method approach, collecting data through
surveys administered to 50 respondents, including parents, teachers, and local community members. The findings
revealed that a majority of respondents strongly supported improving access to ICT tools, with 60% of participants
strongly agreeing and 30% agreeing on the need to enhance children's access to digital devices. Furthermore, the
use of social media platforms like Facebook for business purposes received overwhelming support, with 84%
strongly agreeing, reflecting the growing recognition of social media's role in business and economic engagement.
In terms of ICT development, responses were more mixed, with 46% strongly agreeing and 16% disagreeing,
highlighting differing opinions on the urgency of ICT advancements. Sensitization campaigns on marketing
opportunities through social media garnered strong support (86%), underlining the community's recognition of
the potential economic benefits. However, there was a notable divide on enhancing the roles of social media, with
30% disagreeing, indicating concerns over the need for further intervention in this area. The integration of social
media with other media also saw divided views, with 40% strongly agreeing and 14% disagreeing. Additionally,
38% strongly agreed that businesses should be trained in using social media effectively, suggesting an awareness
of the importance of digital skills in the local business environment. The study recommended expanding digital
infrastructure, implementing training programs for businesses, integrating digital literacy into school curricula,
and promoting responsible social media use through awareness campaigns. Stakeholder collaboration, including
government, businesses, and educational institutions, was emphasized as key to creating a safe and productive
