Management competence and financial performance of financial institutions in Uganda. A case study of Equity Bank (issue 2)
This research paper analyzed the impact of managerial competence exhibited by leadership on the financial outcomes
achieved by one of Uganda's premier banking institutions, Equity Bank Uganda Limited, over the past decade from
2010 through 2020. By procuring and thoroughly screening extensive time series data pertaining to financial
statements, governance protocols, operational metrics and regulatory assessments from reliable sources such as annual
reports and central bank filings, a comprehensive analytical methodology is devised leveraging the robust
functionalities of the SPSS statistical software application. This facilitates the generation of descriptive statistics,
evaluation of bivariate relationships utilizing correlation analysis techniques, and execution of multivariate linear
regression modeling while accounting for potential endogeneity and simultaneous relationship issues through
instrumental variable and seemingly unrelated regression estimations. The findings reliably establish the influential
role that prudent risk management, strategic visioning, operational excellence, talent optimization and responsible
stakeholder engagement have played in propelling Equity Bank's unparalleled trajectory of growth and sustained
profitability surpassing peers. However, the paper also identifies pressing strategic priorities meriting addressed if this
exemplary foundation of resilient governance is to adapt nimbly to rapidly evolving technological disruptions and
rising consumer sophistication levels continuing to enrich lives of citizens for generations to come.
