MULTIPARTY SYSTEM AND WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN POLITICAL PROCESSES IN UGANDA: A CASE OF PAKWACH DISTRICT LOCAL GOVERNMENT (issue 8)
The study was about multiparty system and women participation in political processes in Local Governments: A
case of Pakwach District Local Government, Uganda. The general objective of the study was to examine the
relationship between multi-party system and women participation in political processes of Uganda, A case of
Pakwach District Local Government. The Specific Objectives were; to examine the relationship between party
governance structure and women participation in political processes at Pakwach District Local Government, to
examine the relationship between party electoral financing and women participation in political processes at
Pakwach District Local Government and to examine the relationship between party engagement programs and
women participation in political processes at Pakwach District Local Government. The study employed a descriptive
survey research design based on quantitative and qualitative research approaches. A total of 381 people involved in
multiparty political process in Pakwach District Local Government from which a sample was selected; a sample size
of 195 respondents was selected to participate in the study. The respondents were selected using stratified and
simple random sampling procedures. Data collection Instruments used; questionnaire survey and interview methods.
A quantitative data/surveys /questionnaire were administered to a sample of women involved in the political
process; In-depth interviews were conducted with key informants, including women political leaders, party officials,
community members and CSOs. The Content validity index depicted a high content validity of 0.82 rated high and
all variable items had Chronbach Alpha Values greater than 0.7 indicating that the tools had high reliability. A total
of 195 questionnaires were sent out and all were returned (100%). The study overall concluded that there is a
moderate significant relationship between party governance structure and women participation in political processes
at Pakwach District Local Government as such the current party government structures give opportunity for women
to participate in political process; Party electoral financing and Women participation in political process have a
moderate and significant relationship and Party engagement programs and Women participation in political process
and the results indicated that the two variables has a statistically positive moderate and significant relationship.
These informs that party engagement programs are paramount and determine women participation in political
process as they increase confidence, build capacity of women to enhance their skills and expertise to participate in
the Political Process.
