The study aimed at determining the relationship between goal setting and sustainability of youth livelihood
projects in Bigodi town council, Kamwenge district. The correlation analysis revealed a moderate to strong
positive relationship between goal setting and the sustainability of youth livelihood projects in Bigodi Town
Council, Kamwenge District. This study adopted a descriptive cross-sectional research design to examine the
relationship between goal setting and the sustainability of youth livelihood projects in Bigodi Town Council,
Kamwenge District. The total study population was estimated to be 80 youth beneficiaries and 5 key
informants, including government and NGO representatives involved in youth empowerment programs. A
sample size of 67 respondents was determined using Krejcie and Morgan’s (1970) sample size determination
table, ensuring statistical representativeness Descriptive statistics such as means, standard deviations,
frequencies, and percentages were generated to summarize respondents’ demographic characteristics and key
variables. From the findings, the Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.579 indicates that goal setting is a
significant predictor of sustainability. This finding emphasizes the importance of incorporating goal-setting
mechanisms into the planning and implementation stages of projects to increase their long-term viability. The
R² value of 0.546 suggests that goal setting accounts for approximately 54.6% of the variation in project
sustainability, further affirming the critical role of goal setting in determining the success and sustainability of
youth livelihood projects. Moreover, the regression analysis revealed that goal setting positively impacts
project sustainability. The coefficient for goal setting (0.690) suggests that for every one-unit increase in goal
setting, the sustainability of the project is expected to increase by 0.690 units. This highlights the practical
application of setting specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals in project
management. The statistical significance (p-value = 0.000) further underscores the robustness of the
relationship between goal setting and sustainability. Goal setting facilitated a structured approach to training
and skill development, empowering youth participants to manage their projects more effectively. Local
government and non-governmental organizations should support youth projects by facilitating access to
funding and resources, ensuring that goals related to resource mobilization are clearly defined.
