Relationship Between Mosque Community Outreach And Community Transformation In Nakawa East Constituency Kampala District Uganda
This study aimed at examining the relationship between mosque community outreach and community transformation
in Nakawa East Constituency, Kampala District, Uganda. The research focused on understanding how the frequency
and nature of community outreach activities organized by mosques influenced perceptions of social, economic, and
infrastructural development within the local community. Data were collected through surveys and analyzed using
SPSS and STATA to explore the association between the regularity of mosque outreach programs and community
transformation. The results revealed that individuals who participated in mosque-led outreach activities regularly
perceived higher levels of community transformation, while those engaged occasionally or rarely had less optimistic
views on community development. Specifically, a significant proportion of respondents who attended outreach
programs regularly rated community transformation as "high," suggesting a positive correlation between consistent
outreach and community well-being. The study concluded that mosque leadership plays a critical role in fostering
community transformation through consistent and inclusive outreach programs. It was evident that the frequency of
outreach initiatives, combined with active involvement from community members, could lead to improved socio
economic conditions in the constituency. However, the findings also indicated that many individuals, particularly
those who participated rarely or never, did not fully engage with mosque-led initiatives, which could limit the broader
impact of such programs. Based on these findings, it is recommended that mosque leadership in Nakawa East focus
on increasing the regularity of outreach activities, targeting both frequent and occasional participants to ensure
inclusivity. Moreover, efforts should be made to better engage underrepresented groups such as youth, women, and
marginalized communities. Additionally, further research should investigate the specific components of outreach
programs that most effectively contribute to community transformation.
