Abstract
The study was to determine the socio-demographic factors (gender, school location, and school type) and moral development of students in selected secondary schools in Western Uganda. Sought further in this study were the following; (1) SocioDemographic characteristics of respondents and (2) Significant difference between gender, school location, school type and level of moral development (LMD) of students. The descriptive comparative and correlation design were utilized. Six hundred thirty ix (636) senior two and three students were selected through purposive, systematic random sampling. A researcher designed instrument to determine the LMD was used. Frequency tables and t test analyzed the data. The majority of the students were females (51%), teenagers (99%) and secular (56%). LMD had a grand average of (1.648) indicating a heteronomous level of moral development. There was a significant difference between gender, school location, school type and level of moral development of students (males, 33.7152 and females, 44.3674; Urban, 33.2516 and Rural, 33.8354; Secular founded, 39.4870, and Faith founded, 48.4970) It was concluded that, gender, school location, and school type differently affect moral development of students. It was recommended that gender, school location, and school type should be approached differently while advancing moral development of students.
