Sexual Abuse and Girl Child Education in Secondary Schools in Uganda. A Case of Secondary Schools in Wakiso District.

Abstract

This research report study aimed to investigate the “The impact of sexual abuse on the girl child education in secondary schools in Uganda; a case of Secondary Schools in Wakiso district”. Questionnaires were used to collect data under a case study research design. Qualitative and quantitative means were used to analyze the data. The objectives of the study used were; to assess the causes of child sexual abuse in Secondary Schools, Wakiso District, to determine the effects of child sexual abuse in Secondary Schools and to assess the relationship between child sexual abuse and academic performance in Secondary Schools. To achieve this objective, the study sampled 80 respondents because it is large enough compared to the study population in Secondary Schools that is teachers, health workers, chair persons, parents, plus students in particular were selected, the respondents were selected using random sampling method, it was important because it gave the researcher freedom to select certain respondents with in-depth knowledge regarding the issue under investigation. The findings indicated that there is a strong negative relationship between child abuse and academic performance at regression (r)= -0.702 and at level of significance 0.05, this implies that the higher the cases of child abuse, the higher poor levels academic performance. The community authorities should also consider their needs and put them in consideration, they will have more leverage to push for their demands and have their opinions taken into consideration. As their demands are prioritized, implementing authorities like the government can then be conscious of constructing serious auditing companies to check the issue of funds provided by the government they completely reach the needs of the families.
