Teachers’ Characteristics And Pupils’ Discipline In Schools In Rwamucucu Subcounty, Rukiga District, Uganda

Abstract

The study establishes the relationship between teachers’ characteristics and pupils’ discipline in primary schools in Rwamucucu subcounty, Rukiga district, Uganda. The study used convergent parallel mixed methods, by merging quantitative and qualitative data thus making easy all-encompassing analysis of the research problem. A sample size of 248 respondents was considered for the study, 186 respondents participated, giving a response rate of 75%. The study established that teacher's characteristics account for about 56.7% of the variability observed in pupils' discipline. Therefore, it was recommended to promote and cultivate a positive teacher attitude within the educational environment; educational leader should formulate a strategic set of intervention initiatives aimed at cultivating the educator traits shown to influence achievement levels and therefore creating an organizational culture embracing evidence-based continuous refinement was integral to nurturing the teacher qualities indicated as substantially important to optimizing learning outcomes.
