The Influence Of Christian Religious Education As A Means Of Curbing Moral Decadence Among Youths In Uganda. The Case Of Selected Secondary Schools In Lubya Parish

Abstract

This qualitative study aimed at examining the influence of Christian religious education as a means of curbing moral decadence among youth in Uganda while considering Lubya parish Rubaga division Kampala district. It was guided by the divine command theory that holds the assumption that rightness stems from God’s command under the sample size of 138 respondents among whom included secondary school leaders, teachers and non-teaching staff as well as students in the parish. The school that were involved in this study were Namungoona high school, Namungoona progressive secondary school, Chwa II memorial senior secondary school and St Florence senior secondary school. The study was anchored on three objectives namely; (1) examining the effect of moral decadence on students (2) examining the causes of moral decadence among secondary school and (3) examining the various christen religious biblical teachings that focus on fighting moral decadence and the results revealed moral decadence has contributed to an increase in school burn out, robbery as well as corruption among officials. Christian religious education is imperative to curbing moral decadence. Christian religious education as a subject has the capacity if implemented properly to control the spread of these behaviors among youths in all secondary school’s country wide. The study recommends policy makers to embark of redesigning laws concerning human rights, since it is through human rights that children can no longer be punished in their young stage when they have done wrong.
