Government Export Promotion Policies and the Development of Logistics Business in an Economy. A Case Study: Atlas Cargo Shipping Company

Abstract
There has been consensus that logistics as well as supply chain management is a vital research field, yet with few literature reviews on this topic. This paper sets out to propose some hot issues in the current research, through a review of related literature from the perspective of operations management. In addition, we generate some insights and future research directions in this field. Logistics is gaining day by day more attention in the business world and in the fields of interest of policy makers. Even so the same people who use this term frequently declare that the concept of logistics is not completely clear to them. The study examined the effect of government export promotion on the development of logistics business in an economy. The following hypotheses were formulated, they are: Export subsidies positively lead to the development of logistics business in an economy, Tax exemptions positively affects the on the development of logistics firms. The survey research design was used in the study. Data was collected from primary source with the use of adopted and findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between government export promotion policies and development of logistics firms. From the findings, 40.4% and 30.9% agreed that Government policies gives chance to logistics firms to attain foreign markets, a few respondents by the percentage of 11.95 disagreed with the statement simply because they are never at the front line of running the company activities. This implied that Government policies gives chance to logistics firms to attain foreign markets. Regarding recommendations for improvement, the management of Igara growers’ tea factory should focus on increasing the utilization of government export promotion policies strategies like negotiation and third-party intervention to increase organizational performance. The management should be sensitive to conflicts and set up effective communication channels to facilitate an improvement in government export promotion policies.
