ICT and Economic Development of Communities in Uganda. A Case Study of Kapsinda Sub County Kapchorwa District

Abstract

Information and communication technologies (ICT) play a significant role in all aspects of modern society. The study was to examine the role of information communication technology on the economic development of communities and it was based on three objectives such as to investigate how Information Communication Technology aids information dissemination in Kapsinda sub county Kapchorwa district, to determine the role of information communication technology in the provision of health care services on the socio economic development of Kapsinda sub county Kapchorwa district, to determine how information communication technology promotes business growth in Kapsinda sub county Kapchorwa district. The study was done form Kapsinda sub county Kapchorwa district. The study used a descriptive research design in which both qualitative & qualitative techniques were utilized. From the findings, (100%) of the respondents strongly agreed that ICT aids networking and processing of large amounts of data complex. 43 (91.5%) strongly agreed that ICT act as a source of data to the administration, and 4 (.5%) agreed. 40 (85%) strongly agreed that ICT leads to organizational and socio intelligence, 3 (6%) agreed however 4 (8%) disagreed. 38 (81%) of the respondents strongly agreed that ICT facilitates strategic business decision making and 9 (19%) also agreed. The study recommended the government to increase on the investment of capital in the information and technology ministry to increase on the services offered to the public.
