Managerial Competence And Performance. A Case Study Of Logistics Companies In Kampala

Alex Irumba, Dr Arinaitwe Julius

Abstract

This study's goal was to investigate the connections between financial achievement, working capital administration, and managerial proficiency among Kampala-area logistics firms. The study's goals were to ascertain the connections between managerial skills on financial performance of Kampala-based logistics companies. On a population of 45 logistics enterprises operating in Kampala, a cross-sectional research design and quantitative research methodology were utilized. 40 logistic companies were chosen as a sample. A self-administered, structured questionnaire was used to collect primary data, which was then processed using SPSS version 20. Furthermore, the regression analysis demonstrates that managerial competence explains a substantial portion of the variance in financial performance, with an R Square value of 0.885, indicating that nearly 89% of the variability in financial performance can be attributed to the levels of managerial competence within the organization. This suggests that enhancing managerial competence is a key lever for improving financial outcomes in logistics companies. The regression model reveals that for every unit increase in managerial competence, financial performance is expected to increase by 0.697 units, further highlighting the critical role of competent management in achieving superior financial results. The high tstatistic and low p-value for managerial competence confirm that this relationship is statistically significant, reinforcing the conclusion that the competence of managers is an essential determinant of financial success. Given these findings, it is evident that managerial competence should be a primary focus for logistics companies aiming to improve their performance in a competitive market. Further research was recommended in the areas of demonstrating the connection between inventory management and financial performance, handling working capital, and liquidity management among logistics enterprises in Uganda.
