Abstract
Beekeeping is increasingly recognized as a useful and promising practice to boost the livelihood of people that combines goals of sustainable agricultural development for resource-poor tropical farmers with greater environmental benefits than less diversified agricultural systems, pastures, or monoculture plantations. Among these expected benefits is the conservation of a greater part of the native biodiversity in human-dominated landscapes that retain substantial and diversified tree cover. Although the protection of natural habitat remains the backbone of biodiversity conservation strategies, promoting agro forestry on agricultural and other deforested land could play an important supporting role, especially in mosaic landscapes where natural habitat has been highly fragmented and forms extensive boundaries with agricultural areas. Bee keeping is receiving greater attention in many countries to protect the land from various types of degradation. The study then shown that 30% strongly agreed, 41% agreed, 4% were not sure, 20% disagreed and 5% strongly disagreed to the fact that availability and improper use of harvesting equipment. Poor harvesting methods Rudimentary harvesting methods, for example, using too much smoke or burning the hives, leads to destruction of the bee colonies as well as to contamination of the honey harvest and quality control challenges. Farmers annual incomes from honey can be improved through increasing the adoption of improved bee hives. The higher income also motivates the beekeepers to adopt the technology more intensively.
