Industrialisation and Environmental Degradation; a Case of Bundibugyo Town Council, Bundibugyo District

Abstract

The study was aimed at investigating how industrialization has contributed to environmental degradation using Bundibugyo Town Council as a case study. The study was guided by the qualitative research design where data was collected using questionnaires, interview and observation on over 50 respondents purposefully selected. A qualitative case study design was selected because it helped to get detailed information on how industrialization leads to environmental degradation in Bundibugyo Town Council. This was research design was selected in order to capture deep understanding of the study including respondents’ feelings, emotions and nonverbal communications. The finding s of the study indicated that industrialization contributes to water, air, noise pollutions which greatly affect the ozone layer. The study also indicated that deforestation, over population, landslides, floods and over consumption are some of other factors that contributes to environmental duration. It was therefore concluded that industrialization has great impact on environment and recommendations were made such as putting up anti-deforestation law, reducing on the price of electricity among others.
