Abstract

The study focused on investigating the relationship between the role played by the non-governmental organizations and poverty alleviation in Uganda but with a bias in Bugili municipality local government. The study was guided by several research objectives and research questions. The researcher used by qualitative and quantitative methods to collect and analyze both primary and secondary data to draw collusions on the subject matter. The study is expected to be of great significance to the government authorities as it will guide the policy formulation and strategies to eliminate poverty and its impact in Bugili municipality local government. The study found out that there is a close correlation between the role played by the non-governmental organizations and poverty alleviation in Uganda. This calls for instant government and non-state intervention by both government and non-government organizations so as to eliminate the scourge. From the findings, it was observed that the majority of the respondents strongly agreed (100%) that there a number of other challenges facing the non-governmental organizations while executing their mandate in Kabale District. 20% of the respondents agreed that there was a problem of limited finance which affect their deliberations for poverty alleviation in the subcounty.10% agreed that there was political interference in their roles which has put a number of projects on a standstill as different stakeholders hold varying interest, while 30% agreed strongly that limited funding stands to be the big challenge making it the biggest hinderance to efficient funding of all the necessary activities in the subcounty. The government should facilitate fully all agencies involved in the municipality for efficient monitoring and supervision including civil society so as to harmonize their efforts and initiatives towards the division’s success.
