Kabagambe Augustine, Nakimbugwe Sophie

Abstract

This research critically analyzes the influence of cultural beliefs on the development of domestic tourism in the Central Region, with a focus on Kampala. The study explores the perceptions of cultural practices, traditions, and rituals/beliefs among participants and investigates their role in enhancing tourist experiences and contributing to the uniqueness of the destination. A mixedmethods approach is employed, including a structured questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews, to gather comprehensive insights from a diverse range of stakeholders in the tourism sector. The findings reveal a positive overall perception of the impact of cultural elements on domestic tourism, with high mean scores indicating agreement on the enriching and vital role of cultural practices, traditions, and rituals/beliefs. However, the study also identifies nuances in opinions, particularly concerning community engagement in preserving cultural elements. The research concludes with practical recommendations for fostering community involvement, strategic promotion, and preservation initiatives to further enhance the development of domestic tourism in the Central Region. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the intricate relationship between cultural beliefs and tourism, providing a foundation for future research and practical interventions in the field. Implement community engagement programs that actively involve local c o m m u n i t i e s in preserving and promoting cultural practices, traditions, and rituals/beliefs. This could include educational initiatives, cultural exchange programs, and collaborative projects between communities and tourism stakeholders.
