Abstract
This study examined the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives by Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (Uganda) in improving sanitation and public health outcomes within local communities. The research aimed to assess the impact of Coca-Cola's CSR programs, particularly water access projects, sanitation infrastructure development, and community engagement efforts, on addressing sanitation-related health issues in Uganda. A sample of 300 respondents was surveyed across several communities, and both descriptive and inferential statistical methods, including multiple linear regression and paired sample t-tests, were employed to analyze the data. The study found that Coca-Cola’s CSR programs had a significant and positive effect on sanitation conditions, leading to a noticeable reduction in sanitation-related diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever. Specifically, the regression analysis revealed that CSR resources, active community involvement, and government support were critical factors driving improvements in sanitation. Additionally, the paired sample t-test results demonstrated a significant decline in disease incidence after the implementation of CSR initiatives. However, the study also identified a gap in hygiene education, which was found to be less emphasized in Coca-Cola’s CSR strategies, suggesting that sustained health benefits could be achieved with greater focus on community-based hygiene education. The research concluded that while Coca-Cola's CSR efforts have substantially improved sanitation and public health, there is a need for further investment in educational programs and greater collaboration with local governments and other organizations to scale these efforts. The findings underscore the importance of CSR in addressing public health challenges, particularly in developing regions, and highlight the potential for multinational companies to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development goals. In light of these results, the study recommended that Coca-Cola enhance its community engagement and hygiene education initiatives, increase its focus on sustainable infrastructure, and
