Manure and Crop Production in Kisoro District: A Case Study of Kisoro Municipality

Abstract

The main aim of this study was to find out whether manure has an effect on crop production in Kisoro Municipality Northern Division Kisoro District. A simple (random) chance sampling strategy was used to choose a sample size of 341 respondents from the intended population of 3000 participants for the study. It used a combination of a descriptive and empirical methodology. 212 males and 129 females made up the sample. This was due to the fact that for every garden dimension provided by those who participated, it was demonstrated that at least 10 sacks of Irish potatoes could be gathered when manure was applied, as opposed to only 5 sacks when it wasn't. Participants argued, however, that the aforementioned assessments were reliant on environmental variables including the fertility of the soil and weather variations. Since the highest amount of importance required to declare an important connection between manure and agricultural output was 0.01, the results showed a substantial positive correlation between manure and crop manufacturing at r = 0. 705; this implied that when the level of fertilizer usage was high, the level of crop manufacturing was also high, and when the level of manure usage was low, the level of crop goods. There was a need to design effective manure handling and storage systems that reduce loss of nutrients after excretion and during composting, and to explore the viability of community-based manure collection initiatives at the farm level where manure transportation costs are shared and hence minimized and finally farmers should capture urine, as it assists in decomposition of the waste heap.
