The Effect of Gender Inequality on Agricultural Development, Acase Study of Labongolayamo Subcounty, Kitgum District

Abstract

In Uganda, the agricultural sector contributes substantially to gross domestic product. Although the involvement of Uganda women in the sector is extensive, female farmers face significant obstacles, caused gendering that impedes their ability to expand their family business and to generate incomes. Gender refers to social or cultural categories by which women and men relationships are conceived. The main goal of this study was to investigate how gender inequality affects agricultural growth. a situation in Northern Uganda's Kitgum District's Labongo Layamo sub county. The study also aimed to investigate what contributes to gender disparity in the development of agriculture. Men and women in Labongo Layamo Sub County were analyzed using sampling methods and sample sizes. The participants for the study were chosen using simple random sampling. Supervisors in the agricultural sector were chosen via deliberate sampling, while farmers were chosen from a pool of 15 men, 15 women, and 5 juveniles. According to the results, 47% of participants said that both men and women handled these tasks. On the other hand, 32% claimed that women performed clearing land while only 15% claimed that men did. However, 5% said that boys and 1% said that females were in charge of these activities. A majority of respondents (45%) claimed that both men and women were in charge of sowing, while 34% identified women as the person in charge. In contrast, 17% said that males were in charge of sowing, 3% mentioned boys, and only 1% said girls.
