Ayebare Bright, Kaziro Nicholas

Abstract

This study explored the relationship between raw material availability and industrialization in Namanve Zone, Mukono District, focusing specifically on Harris International Bottling Company. The study aimed to determine the extent of raw material production, the level of industrial growth, and the relationship between these two factors. Data were collected through surveys administered to industry stakeholders, including local producers of raw materials and representatives from the bottling company. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the impact of raw material production on industrial growth, with variables such as raw material availability, infrastructure, investment in technology, and workforce development considered. The results revealed that raw material availability had a significant positive effect on industrial growth (β = 0.45, p < 0.05). Furthermore, infrastructure development and technology adoption were identified as key facilitators of industrial expansion, with significant positive coefficients (β = 0.38, p < 0.01 and β = 0.29, p < 0.01, respectively). The regression also highlighted the importance of workforce training and skill development, which were found to positively influence industrial productivity (β = 0.33, p < 0.01). The study concluded that the interdependence of raw material production, infrastructure, and human capital plays a critical role in fostering industrialization. It was recommended that the government and private sector work together to improve infrastructure, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and invest in workforce development. Additionally, further investment in technology and value-added production processes was suggested to enhance industrial growth in the region.
