The Effect of Drug Abuse on Family Break Up in Uganda Communities. A Case of Nabukalu Sub County Bugiri District

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of Drug on family Break ups in Nabukalu Sub County in Bugiri District. The study was based on the findings from 260 respondents out of the sample size of 300 respondents. 260 respondents presented results that were accurate basing on the objectives of the study. The objectives of the study were to investigate the proportion of adult population involved in alcoholism in Nabukalu Sub County in Bugiri District, to assess the reasons why people resort to alcoholism in Nabukalu Sub County and finally to identify the different types of drugs used in Nabukalu Sub County in Bugiri District. Data was collected from the residents of Nabukalu Sub County in Bugiri District. The findings of the study in this report showed that majority of the respondents informed the researcher that they do not take alcohol even though the number of those who presented results showing that they consume alcohol. The findings of the study also according to the report revealed that majority of the respondents would take alcohol because of stress and peer pressure and some said that they would drink for fun. Finally, the findings of the study clearly indicated that alcohol was the mostly used drugs in Nabukalu Sub County in Bugiri District followed by Cigarettes, Marijuana and lastly Cocaine. The government of Uganda should also set up strict and working laws that barn any one form consuming, dealing in or selling any drug or material that was harmful to the human body. On the other hand, the retailers who deal in dangerous drugs should also refrain from selling them to children and youths who are under the age of 18 years as recommended by the government.
